Hello! Welcome to The Maker + Mender's Styleposium. If you're visiting by way of #slowfashionoctober, we are so glad you're here! Please enjoy this weekly resource for inspiring and informative stories on how we dress and care for our clothing. Nostalgia hits upon hearing the expression, "Sunday Best." I love this phrase. Maybe, I'm just a minimalist at heart? My inner Iris Apfel does not approve...(More is more! Less is a Bore!). Can one have maximalist style with a minimalist wardrobe? Hmmm. That would take an expert level of wardrobe mastery. Fast fashion has enabled us to live in this wacky world in which clothing is disposable and outfit repeats unforgivable. It hasn't always been this way, and in fact, if you find the current conventions disconcerting, you are in good company - we are experiencing a major shift. Some of my favorite conversations on dress: Nina Simone has a great take on the uniform here with BlankonBlank If you haven't caught this hilarious interview with Fran Leibowitz, you are missing out. More good conversation over at AWear World's Conscious Chatter Behold, evidence of a time where we cared and maintained our garments like the precious objects they are. Although some of these supplies, like the yarn and fusible patches may no longer be viable for real mending, I can't help but collect them as reminders of the way we were once and it's a bit like time travel. Call to Writers + Artists: Inspired and feeling like you have a bit to say on the subject? Fashion Revolution is taking submissions yet through 10/16 for their debut zine this December.
